The Swim Meet
This is how my son’s swim meet went down today…….it was made for the movie screen.
The big race was coming up. My son was over in the corner preparing for the big race: warming up, stretching, picturing every stroke in his mind (actually, he was horsing around with some of his buddies by the concession stand).
And then it happened. He suffered a major, career threatening injury (actually, he got a tiny splinter stuck in his foot because he wasn’t wearing his flip-flops like we told him).
Fortunately, the team surgeon was nearby (actually, one of the dads who happens to be a chiropractor). Someone found his surgical equipment (tweezers and a safety pin) and we rushed him into the operating room (the pool house). After a few hours (minutes), the operation was complete and my son limped (i carried him) to the starting blocks just in time for the big race. All of his fans (me, my wife, and little brother) cheered him on.
The buzzer sounded and he shot out of the blocks. He sped across the water and set a new pool record (actually he finished last in his heat)!
OK, so maybe it wasn’t made for the movie screen. But we will always remember today’s swim meet.
