My Story
My last post was about a group of former prisoners. A group of men with powerful stories of life change to tell.
Their stories got me thinking, “What is my story?”
This is my story…….
I grew up going to church. Tradition, mediocrity, and irrelevant teaching were the norm. Creativity, excellence, and relevant teaching were no where to be found.
For years, I went through the motions, but didn’t understand the Gospel.
I played the part, but didn’t know God.
About 6 years ago, I attended a church that presented the Gospel like it was really good news. They described a God that was not like the God I had imagined. They read from a really old book and taught me how the words in that really old book are still relevant in my life today.
After several months, I found myself with 2 options. Only 2.
Option 1
Jesus was not who he said he was. He was not really the son of God. He didn’t really live a sinless life. He didn’t really die for the forgiveness of my sins. He didn’t really conquer death and rise from the dead. Jesus, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, and all the rest were liars.
If all of that was true, then why was I going through the motions? Why was I playing the part?
Option 2
Jesus was exactly who he said he was. He really was the son of God. He really did live a sinless life. He really did die for the forgiveness of my sins. He really did conquer death and rise from the dead. Jesus, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul and all the rest wrote truth.
If all of that was really true, then why was I just going through the motions? Why was I just playing the part?
I could not rest. I had 2 options. Only 2.
I looked to creation….flowers, trees, mountains, stars, the weather, the human brain, my own son. I thought about the existence of good and evil. I read the Bible. I read books about the Bible.
I landed comfortably on option 2.
What is your story?
