Adventure

One of my favorite magazines to read is National Geographic Adventure.  I don’t really read it in search of my next cliff to climb, to look for the next mountain to summitt, or to find the latest dive spot.  Honestly, I don’t really live a life of extreme adventure, but I am drawn to the stories and the amazing photographs of the people who do.  I think it is because God calls all of us to a life of adventure.  Not necessarily in the rock climbing, journey to Antarctica, African safari kind of way, but an adventurous life of risk-taking, steps of faith, not playing it safe, and journeys into the unknown.

Maybe it is the adventure of taking a new job with lower pay because the new job allows you to make a difference in an area that you are passionate about.

Maybe it is the adventure of starting that new business that you have been dreaming about for years.

Maybe it is the adventure of stepping out of your comfort zone and traveling to the uncomfortable zone of a third-world country to help a group of people that desperately need it.

Check out this video profile of Francois Bon.  Bon participates in an adventurous ’sport’ called Speed Riding and he was chosen as one of National Geographic Adventure Magazine’s Adventurers of the Year. Crazy!

So what is the most extreme outdoor adventure you have done?

For me, it is a tie between climbing to the summitt of a 13,000ft mountain in Colorado and whitewater rafting down the Cache La Poudre River in Colorado.  So fun!
