What Are You Delegating?

I heard this from Craig Groeschel today…….

Delegating responsibilities creates followers. Delegating authority creates leaders.

A few other differences between delegating responsibilities and delegating authority that I can think of…..

  • Delegating responsibilities involves defining specific actions to be taken. Delegating authority involves defining the desired results or outcomes.
  • Delegating responsibilities sends a message of “Do it my way.”  Delegating authority sends a message of “I trust you.  I have confidence in you.  Do it your way.
  • Delegating responsibilities might make you an effective manager.  Delegating authority properly is necessary to be an effective leader.
  • Delegating responsibilities ensures that your organization remains the same.  Delegating authority ensures that your organization changes, grows, innovates, and matures.

What are you delegating?  Responsibilities or Authority?
