The World is Experiencing The Most Transitional Period in History Fueled by 3 Interconnected Trends

The world has changed.

This short video from HP says……

The World is Experiencing The Most Transitional Period in History

Fueled by 3 Interconnected Trends

1 // Explosive Population Growth

2 // Unprecedented Economic Development

3 // Exponential Technology Advancement

Some amazing facts about the world we live in.

The world has changed.

Have you and your company, organization, or brand adjusted to this new reality?

Democratizing Print // What If Anyone Could Publish a Magazine For Free?

magcloud2

What if anyone could publish a magazine for free?

That is what MagCloud (@magcloud), an HP Development Company, offers.

From the MagCloud website…..

MagCloud enables you to publish your own magazines. All you have to do is upload a PDF and we’ll take care of the rest: printing, mailing, subscription management, and more.

HP Chief Marketing Officer, Mike Mendenhall, explains MagCloud in this video…..

“Democratizing Print” sounds like a great idea and MagCloud’s approach to doing so is quite innovative.

Eliminate the publishing costs that traditionally served as a barrier to taking a magazine to market.

Enable anyone to be a publisher.

Take advantage of the “long tail” and deliver magazine content to smaller niches.

Allow advertisers to better target advertising to consumers who are more likely to be interested in their products/services.

I also like the “start-up” feel of MagCloud.  Interesting given the fact that MagCloud is part of large, corporate titan Hewlett-Packard.

The Big Question is……

Do consumers still want printed publications in this new digital world?

The Early Stages of a Big Shift

cloud-computing

The technology industry is in the early stages of a big shift — one that will transform how we access information, share content, and communicate.

That is what, Shane Robison, our Chief Strategy and Technology Officer at HP, says in a fascinating, forward looking article titled, The Next Wave: Everything as a Service.

I think there is a lot behind his simple statement.

“early stages” // we ain’t see nothing yet

“big shift” // this will be huge. this is crazy different

“transform” // this is more than improve, more than enhance. this will be a transformation

Here are a few other comments from the article that help to explain this transformation that he is referring to………

This next wave will be driven by a new model of computing: Instead of installing packaged software applications on their computers, people and businesses will use their web browsers to access a wide range of “cloud services” available on-demand over the Internet.

To realize the full potential of this new model, the technology industry needs to think about the cloud as a platform for creating new services and experiences that we have yet to imagine.

But Software as a Service is just the tip of the iceberg. We’re moving to a future state where everything will be delivered to you as a service, from your work life to entertainment to various communities. At HP we call this “Everything as a Service,”…

The article also offers up 5 Trends to watch for.

1) The digital world will converge with the physical world

2) The era of device-centric computing is over

3) Publishing will be democratized

4) Crowd-sourcing is going mainstream and will change the rules of the game forever

5) Enterprises will use radically different tools to make key business decisions, including systems to accurately predict the future

Fascinating.  I recommend reading the full article here.

With The Touch of a Finger

If you’re like me and you get excited about new, creative, innovative uses of technology, then you probably noticed some of the cool touch screen technology used by CNN on election night.

The company behind that advanced multi-touch technology is Perceptive Pixel, Inc.

Check out the video below to see more of what can be done with the touch of a finger…….

Links to a few other videos that display the Perceptive Pixel technology….

On a side note, HP (the company I work for) has brought similar touch screen technology to the PC with their HP TouchSmart product.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for touch.
