Mission Accomplished

This weekend we are celebrating the 15th anniversary of our church.

Woodlands Church (@woodlandschurch).

At the celebration service last night, our pastor, Kerry Shook, reminded us of our church’s mission statement.

We exist to help people experience Christ rather than man’s creation of religion so they can grow deep in Christ and take the Christ experience to the world.

Almost every organization has a mission statement.  But the mission is not always front and center.

Almost every organization has a mission statement.  But not every organization is always on mission.

Almost every organization has a mission statement.  But the mission is not used as a filter for every action.

At the end of the celebration service last night, Pastor Kerry asked people to stand if they had experienced and received Christ at Woodlands Church during its 15 year history.  I rose to my feet along with hundreds and hundreds of people.  Probably half of all the people in the worship center.

Mission Accomplished.

The Secret

Ed Stetzer, the President of Lifeway Research, has a great interview with my pastor, Kerry Shook, on his blog today.

My favorite part of the interview was Kerry’s response when asked about the secret to the amazing growth at Woodlands Church (@woodlandschurch)………

We always say that the secret to our church’s growth is life change. When God changes someone’s life, then they tell everyone and it is contagious. We use a lot of creativity and new technology, cutting edge things to use in our church, but really what it comes down to is God changing a life. And then, you know, they just want to tell everybody.

Something similar is happening in the church world.

I believe that the church should be the most innovative, imaginative, creative, cutting edge, and forward thinking organization on the planet.
